A CALLER’S GAME by J.D. Barker
Genre: Suspense Thriller
Publisher: Hampton Creek Press
Pages: 424

Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

I just finished reading A CALLERS GAME by J.D. Barker, and let me say, if that man wrote the instructions on how to put an Ikea bookshelf, it would be filled with tension and so fun to read.

1- Ticking time bombs too numerous to count.

2- How the bad deeds we do in our past come back to haunt us in a vengeful way.

3- Making a choice between two major evils.

BEFORE SHE DISAPPEARED by Lisa Gardner
Genre: Suspense, Thriller
Publisher: Dutton
Pages: 380

Don’t read BEFORE SHE DISAPPEARED by Lisa Gardner before bedtime. I’m serious here. Each time I started reading before bedtime, I tell myself, read for only an hour. Two hours pass, and I’m still reading. I have to force myself to close the book and get some sleep. A futile endeavor. As I’m attempting to fall asleep, Lisa’s voice is in my head, asking questions. Why? Who? What happened? I can’t sleep until I get some of the answers, so I haul myself out of bed. Just one more chapter to quell the Lisa voice/questions in my head. Yeah right!

Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

THE BONE MAKER by Sarah Beth Durst is a story about five heroes who defeated the greatest evil their land has seen and how it affected them 25 years later. Let’s say it didn’t end all in glory and happy endings for them. That alone made me want to read this nook.

When I heard two of my favorite authors J.D. Barker (who made me a fan with FORSAKEN) and James Patterson (who made me a fan with WHERE THE WIND BLOWS), were co-writing THE COAST-TO-COAST MURDERS, it was an easy decision to pre-order it. My only dilemma was deciding between the Kindle version to read it at 12:01 am on its release day or wait to get the book later in the day.  I was reading the book at 12:03 am as soon as my Kindle download it.

NINE ELMS by Robert Bryndza

Genre: Serial Killer Thriller, Women Sleuths, Psychological Thriller
Series: Kate Marshall (Book #1)
Publisher: Thomas & Mercer
Pages: 392
Author’s Website
Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

What can I say about NINE ELMS by Robert Bryndza? It was a story I could sink my teeth in, no pun intended. This is my first time reading anything by this author, and I’m so glad I took a chance and downloaded the kindle version. In a watered-down genre of female detectives, Kate Marshall truly stands out. I was expecting to follow the same detective procedural, solve the crime thing, but Robert turned the genre on its ear.

I absolutely love the Gear’s series of North America’s Forgotten Past and was excited to see another book out. PEOPLE OF THE CANYONS (#26 in the series) showed that the Gears still know who to entertain a reader with a great story, rich historical details, and interesting characters.

Publisher: Mulholland Books

Rating: 5 of 5 Stars.

In THE CHAIN by Adrian McKinty, this passage was my favorite passage and pretty much sums up the book’s heart:

Your fall has been vertiginous. You’re in the cage plummeting to hell. And it’s going to get worse. First comes the cancer, then the divorce, then your daughter gets kidnapped, then you become the monster.

THE ANCESTOR by Danielle Trussoni

THE ANCESTOR by Danielle Trussoni

Genre: Gothic, Mystery, Mythology
Publisher: Willam & Morrow
Pages: 368
Author’s Website
Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

“Whatever that family gives you is nothing compared to what you will lose.”

That line in THE ANCESTOR by Danielle Trussoni grabbed my attention and made me what to read what would happen to the protagonist Alberta Monte. It’s a brilliant mixture of gothic, mystery, and suspense with a dark family history at its core. Trusson pulled me in with her first-person point of view, which is not my favorite, and with eerie twists, unexpected revelations, and an ancient history family lineage with a darker past, I was enthralled the whole time.

YOU LET ME IN by Camilla Bruce

Publisher: Tor Books

I was pleasantly surprised by Camilla Bruce’s YOU LET ME IN. I went thinking I was going to be reading a mystery and suspense novel but got so much more. I’m not a big fan of first-person point of view but somehow was seduced by Cassandra Tipp’s voice and her unreliable narration.
