When I heard two of my favorite authors J.D. Barker (who made me a fan with FORSAKEN) and James Patterson (who made me a fan with WHERE THE WIND BLOWS), were co-writing THE COAST-TO-COAST MURDERS, it was an easy decision to pre-order it. My only dilemma was deciding between the Kindle version to read it at 12:01 am on its release day or wait to get the book later in the day. I was reading the book at 12:03 am as soon as my Kindle download it.
THE COAST-TO-COAST MURDERS was bloody fantastic! It’s an action-packed thriller filled with plot twists, family drama, and suspense. From the first line of the book, “Where will you be when your life ends?” to the protagonist Michael Fitzgerald finding a dead woman drowned in his apartment bathtub, the story gripped me. Let’s say nothing is what it seems in this story. For me, one of the true great marks of a thriller/mystery is when it makes me start questioning things and trying to figure it out and hoping I’m as smart as the author. Well, as soon as I thought I had done that, Barker and Patterson threw a curveball, in fact quite a few. It was brilliant, so much I had to force myself to turn off my Kindle at 2:15 am, or I was going to be reading until it was time for me to go to work.
Not only is this story filled with suspense but interesting characters: Michael’s sister, Megan, with her sharp and sarcastic viewpoints, the tough FBI agent Jessica Gimble, and someone we only hear about but never meet, Dr. Barton Fitzgerald, probably the most fascinating person in the story. I couldn’t read this fast enough. I had to get the audio version to listen to while I was at the gym, cleaning the house, and driving.
With gripping suspense and a twist you won’t see coming, THE COAST-TO-COAST MURDERS will have you hooked from page one. Don’t count on figuring it all out until the explosive ending.
